Carla Fascial Layers

Layout of tissue layers from skin to muscle

I call this the lasagna slice. Basically you can follow the layers from skin (epidermis) down to muscle. It’s not apparent from this depiction, but the superficial fascia is really two layers, and the deep fascia on top of the muscle is actually 2-3 layers of fascia. These are separated by loose connective tissue full of the biochemical and tissue lubricant hyaluronan. When properly functioning it serves to provide space and slide between these layers. Used with permission from Dr. Carla Stecco.
